One new case of COVID-19 in the Saskatoon area was the extent of the new cases found in Saskatchewan today. Six more people have recovered as well, according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

The single new case brings Saskatchewan's total up to 648. But of those 648, only 29 are considered active thanks to the six recoveries. Those six recoveries take the provincial total to 608.

Two people are still hospitalized with the virus. Both are in the intensive care unit in Saskatoon. The recoveries announced today all appear to be in the far north region, which has 18 of the 29 active cases.

Travel-related cases of the virus have not risen in some time, and are still at 143. The remainder are either community transmitted (including large gatherings), under investigation, or have no known cause.

Oddly enough, the virus has flipped on the gender demographics it has impacted. At first, men made up more than 50 percent of the cases. Now, women make up 52 percent of the total COVID-19 cases in the province.

To date, 49,915 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of June 2, 2020, when other provincial and national numbers were last available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 37,781 people tested per million population. The national rate was 46,599 people tested per million population.

Saskatchewan will extend its testing criteria tomorrow to include those being admitted to acute care for more than 24 hours, including expectant mothers, and immunocompromised people and their caregivers.

Testing for COVID-19 is also now available to anyone currently working outside the home, or anyone returning to work as part of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan.
