The new school year starts next week for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. Last week, the provincial government released guidance for handling COVID-19 and left it up to the school divisions to either go with more stringent guidelines or to opt for less. For those who are attending programs such as pre-school, or those who are in daycares, there are still some questions.

Dawn Gutzke is the executive director of The Family Place in Weyburn. She explained they haven’t seen any communication for organizations like theirs.

“We haven’t been told any from public health as of yet or from anywhere else, so currently, right now, we’re going to go back completely normal,” Gutzke said. This doesn’t mean they won’t be taking any precautions at all, however.

“Still sanitizing and cleaning as best we can, you know, taking extra measures with hygiene and that sort of thing but as far as mandating masks for the three- and four-year-olds, we are not doing that,” she added.

The Family Place runs a number of programs throughout the year for children ages starting at age three, including their Mini Go program, Little Learners and in the summer their Sunny Scholars program.
