The Weyburn and District United Way may have dissolved but that isn't stopping anyone from planning Weyburn's biggest fundraiser of the year.

According to past president and the current Chair of the Communithon Committee, Sabrina Kraft, Communithon will be a go in 2019 and they are already starting the planning process.

"We're having a planning meeting for the 2019 Communithon," said Kraft.

The meeting will be on Wednesday, January 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the Weyburn Credit Union Community room.

"We've got a great team of people who are organizing this meeting who are coming forward from last year's Communithon," mentioned Kraft.

The 2018 Communithon raised roughly $70,000 in 15 hours and both Kraft and the community were quick to note that it might be time to change.

"Some of the conversation that we had during our debriefing meeting after the 2018 Communithon is what do we need to do to bring it back to a two day event," noted Kraft. "We have a lot of people interested in bringing that back but the most important things we need to make it a two day event is the volunteers and ideas and entertainers."

Communithon previously was a 33 hour event spanning over Friday and Saturday. In 2017 Communithon was reduced to Friday with the Communithon Concert Jam on Saturday and 2018 saw Communithon span across 15 hours.

To move forward, Kraft reiterated the need for new ideas at the planning meeting.

"We invite anybody who has any ideas for Communithon itself to come down, join us and share your ideas," she said. "Even if they have ideas for new fundraisers that can help our member agencies and the work that they do."
