Just as many people had finally cleared away the twigs and debris blown about their yard last weekend, another powerful wind storm is expected to come through southeast Saskatchewan this weekend.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling once again for wind gusts upwards of 80 kilometres an hour for Saturday, with high winds also expected for Sunday. The expected blustery conditions have many people taking precautions.

“We always advise people to put away things that can be blown, like your cushions from your lawn furniture, garbage cans, anything that you can see that could become an object flying around,” said Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The winds will be powerful enough to potentially down tree branches, and even blow some shingles off of roofs.

With the high winds, warm temperatures are also expected for Saturday. A daytime high of 33 ° is in the forecast, which, when combined with the low-pressure system bringing the winds, could lead to some unsettled weather, and even some thundershowers.

“It’ll come probably in the overnight period, late evening or overnight period from Saturday night into Sunday, and then a really good chance during the day Sunday for showers and thundershowers,” Lang added.
