One of the players killed in Friday night's bus accident involving the Humboldt Broncos was 16-year-old Adam Herold of Montmartre.

Adam played three years of minor hockey in Weyburn and was Captain of the 2013-14 Weyburn Pee Wee AA Youngfellow Wings.

Darren Larson was Herold's Coach for the Pee Wee AA Youngfellow Wings. He remembers Herold and said he was every coaches dream player.

"He was very mature. When he came to the rink, he was a very personable kid. Would come in, talk to the coaches and talk to every player that was there. He was just very passionate about the game, highly skilled player. Probably his best quality was his leadership. He was the kind of kid that everybody liked. He wanted to lead by example. He wanted to be that guy that everybody wanted to be around. He was just a special player.

Larson said Herold was a pleasure to coach and is not surprised he had success in his hockey career.

"You could just tell that he had it in him, that he wanted to be a hockey player and that he wanted to go on to bigger and better things. He was such a skilled player and a natural hockey player, you could just tell he was going to play at the next level whether it was WHL or NHL."

"He was a fantastic kid, strong, just glad that I got to know him."

This past season Herold was Captain of the Regina Pat Canadians of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

Herold was called up to join the Humboldt Broncos for the playoffs after the Pat Canadians season ended in March.

Adam was a second-round draft pick of the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL in 2016.

Fifteen people died in the accident Friday near Tisdale, with two more in critical condition. The Broncos were travelling to Nipawin for game five of the Canalta Cup semi-finals against the Hawks.
