For the first time this season, the Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings have lost two games in a row, as they dropped both games in a weekend double header to the Yorkton Midget Terriers on the weekend. Despite the losses, the Wings are still eight points back of Yorkton for first in the league, with four games in hand.

On Saturday, it was a finish the Wings aren’t used to as they were shutout by the Terriers 3-0. It was the first time all season Weyburn didn’t find the back of the net.

Sunday afternoon, the two teams met again at Crescent Point Place. This time, the two teams went back and forth throughout the game, with the Terriers eventually coming out on top with a 4-3 victory.

The Wings were first on the board, when Todd Johnson scored just 1:40 into the game. Ty Stadnick had the assist on the goal. The Terriers would tie it up ten minutes later, as Dreyden Haberman found the mesh behind Wings goalie Jaxon Robertson. The Wings would regain the lead before the period was up, though, as Matthew Anderson scored his 19th of the year, assisted by Ty Stadnick and Kyler Douglas.

In the second period, Yorkton came out firing, with Josh Peppler and Josh Herman scoring, putting the Terriers up 3-2 heading into the third period.

Anderson would then tie the game up again just before the five minute mark of the third, his second of the game, assisted by the team’s leading scorer Braden Birnie, who now has 47 points in 27 games. The Terriers would get the lead one more time at the 8:55 mark, leaving a lot of time for the Wings to try to rally back. Despite putting 16 shots on goal in the period, though, they were unable to get the equalizer.

The Midget AA Wings are now looking ahead to Wednesday, when they host the Regina Capitals at Crescent Point Place.
