A man is facing several charges after police say he shoplifted from a store in Weyburn, followed by failing to pull over for the Weyburn Police Service when a traffic stop was initiated shortly afterwards.

Constable Kalin Wiebe of the Weyburn Police Service explained it started when officers on patrol last Thursday saw a man who was known to be a suspended driver behind the wheel of a vehicle.

“Police attempted to make a traffic stop, however, the vehicle failed to stop for police,” Wiebe said.

After the attempted stop, the WPS received a call from a local business regarding a shoplifting incident. When the officers attended the scene, their investigation determined the suspect in the shoplifting case was also the same driver who they had seen driving while suspended earlier in the day.

“Police issued an arrest warrant for that individual,” Cst. Wiebe continued. “A while later, a member of the RCMP located the individual and arrested them on that outstanding warrant.”

The suspect was charged with theft, driving while suspended, and failing to stop for police.
