Steve Schuck was born and raised in Weyburn and while attending university to become a lawyer he worked in the oil patch on a service rig.

After he finished his law school training Schuck returned to Weyburn to practice law with NSWB Law Firm in 2014.

After close to seven years of law practice and enhancing his skills with more training Schuck began looking for an opportunity to start his own law firm in Weyburn.

"My wife and I, we wanted to be the owners of a law firm," stated Schuck. "When we heard that Don and Diane Horner were retiring it was a perfect fit for us. So we approached them and it was a match made in heaven. I've always wanted to own my own law firm. It's been a dream of mine since I was first called to the bar. After that, I wanted to ensure that I learned as much as I could so that I would be an effective lawyer for my clients and a strong advocate for them."

Schuck's law experience is with corporate reorganizations and the purchase and sale of both the assets and shares of businesses, real estate deals including complex farmland transactions involving the purchase of thousands of acres of farmland, complex estates involving properties worth millions of dollars, and drafting complex Wills and estate plans including the transfer of farmland to the next generation.

"Of course my office was the perfect target for Steve because that's exactly what I have been doing for the past 20 years," told Don Horner. "My wife and I are going to turn 70 this year so obviously it was time. When Steve and Armanda gave us a call it was like a present dropping from the sky because we had been wondering what we'd do with the practice. So Steve has basically taken over a whole raft of clients that we have because we have a large corporate clientele and we do all of the stuff that Steve does. So I think it's going to be terrific for us and I think it's going to be great for Steve. I want all of my clients to know that they will be well taken care of and that all of their documents are going to remain right here in this office. Then they don't have to do anything. I would suggest they drop in one day to say hello to Steve but he's going to take care of everything. There's nothing that they have to do in this transition."

Steve Schuck is actively involved in the community as well as he is the current chair of the Board of the Weyburn Group Home Society, Chair of the Mental Health Review panel for South-eastern Saskatchewan, Coach and Board Manager of the Weyburn MMA Club, and Serving Financial Agent for a local federal constituency of a national political party.

He will be helping the Horner's with their transition into retirement while setting up his new law firm with his wife Armanda, who currently works as a manager for SaskTel and is on maternity leave with their first child expected on May 23rd.

Horner and Schuck knew each other before from the Weyburn bar that they are both a part of and from years of exchanging files with one another.

"It is just reassuring knowing that all of my clients will be well taken care of and that's something that every lawyer contemplating retirement is concerned about," Horner expressed. "And I think that my clients will be more than well off with Steve."

Horner also said that he knows Schuck's father and has complete confidence in his son's abilities as he has seen his hard work ethic over the years with the oil rigs and now practicing law for the better part of a decade.

"I'm looking to expand the practice and I've actually already hired another full-time employee to help with what I think will be an increase in file volume in the coming months and coming years," added Schuck. "I expect to be very busy. In terms of the practice itself, I'm going to be doing a lot of what I usually do which is to provide high-quality legal services. But I am very key on computer automation. The practice of law is going to be changing in that we are going with less paper and more automation and that's something that really interests me in the practice of law."

With the new law firm and their first baby on the way in the next week, Steve and Armanda Schuck are sure to be quite busy for the next while. Schuck also stated that he plans to remain on the local boards that he sits on and will continue to be actively involved as much as he possibly can be. He said that he is very happy to be back in his hometown of Weyburn and is looking forward to serving more people within the community.

As for Horner, he and his wife Diane are looking forward to their upcoming retirement and are excited to be able to relax with their kids whenever they want to. Don Horner also wanted to thank the community for all of their business and said that he is very happy to be able to leave all of his clients with Schuck as he knows they will be properly taken care of.
