With a dominating performance in the second game of the series, the Weyburn Iron Pigs have swept the Regina Capitals in their best of three QVBL playoffs opening-round series. On the strength of two-RBI performances from Kelton Hoium and Cam Evans, as well as strong pitching, the Iron Pigs beat the Capitals 11-1 Thursday night in Regina, finishing the game in six innings.

The Iron Pigs would jump out to an early lead, picking up four runs in the first innings, and then added six more in the second to take a 10-1 lead. Another run in the fifth inning would give the Iron Pigs a ten-run lead, and the game was called after the sixth.

In addition to the RBIs from Evans and Hoium, Mike Onstad, Will Morris, Evan Schultz, Brad Weisgerber and Adam Ziegler also drove in runs in the victory.

On the mound, Eric Evans had the start, and he went three innings to earn the win, giving up one run while striking out four. In relief, Ziegler would strike out five over two innings, giving up one hit. The final inning of the game was pitched by Luke Niemegeers, who struck out one while allowing two hits.

The Iron Pigs will play either the Regina Dodgers or the Regina Trappers in the next round.
