The heat warning currently in effect for the Weyburn area is thanks to an upper ridge of high pressure south of the border, but according to Natalie Hasell, Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, there's some good news ahead soon.

Beginning tomorrow the night time lows will be in the low teens, making it overall more comfortable for everyone.

"Like in previous heat events, we're talking about these types of ridges," she noted. "The Ridge extends into the southern part of the prairies, so right now we have alerts through the southern part of Saskatchewan we also see it extend into Manitoba."

She said other parts of the province will also see rather warm temperatures this week, but not warning-criteria temperatures.

Even here in the southeast, noted Hasell, we'll see some relief from that which begets a heat warning soon.

"There is supposed to be a cold front go through at the surface, but for the areas by the border, your temperatures are still going to be at 30 degrees or higher till the end of the week," she explained. "Not much of a break, but luckily the overnight temperatures will improve with the passage of that cold front, so that hopefully will help people cool down and make things a little bit easier to handle."

"If it weren't for that cold front at the surface, the upper ridge feature is moving, but relatively slowly, as the other ridges that have affected us this season have moved slowly," she said. "This one two is moving slowly, so as a good chance that you would have continued to be in warning criteria for an extended period of time."

"So we see that the southern part of Saskatchewan will remain under the influence of that ridge, but in this case stuff happening at the surface will play a little bit more of a role."
