It is something not many people wanted to wake up to, but it happened anyway. The first snowfall of the season is blanketing southeast Saskatchewan, with more expected off and on throughout the day.

By 9:00 a.m., 2-3 centimetres had already fallen in Weyburn. The snow has led to some less than ideal conditions, both on the roads within the city and on the surrounding highways. The conditions were a factor in a few minor collisions reported in and around the city, including a pair of semis that ended up in a ditch south of Weyburn along Highway 35.

With the return of winter driving conditions, Weyburn's Chief of Police, Jamie Blunden, is reminding motorists to take their time.

"At the end of the day, we know the roads are going to be a little bit slippery; it's going to take a little more time," Blunden said. He reminded drivers to ensure their vehicles are clear of snow, and if heading out on the highway, to have an emergency kit prepared just in case.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling for the snow to stop in the evening, but there are winds up to 50 km/h expected in the afternoon which could blow the snow around, reducing visibility, and causing other issues.
