The Weyburn Police Service, Fire Department and EMS are taking part in the Emergency Services Response Training Program.

"We've got 35 kids in two schools that are our pilot group. Next year we are hoping to have some more schools that will offer the ESRT Program to their students as well," explained Dan Hardern, Consultant, South East Cornerstone School Division.

Hardern also explained how the program involves teaching grade 10-12 students an introduction into what is involved in a career with the emergency services.

The students receive theory training in the classroom and then have the practical training with the different emergency service staff.

Yellow Grass School and 33 Central School, Filmore are the two schools taking part in the project.

The course is running all year, starting with grade ten students in both of the schools.

Tricia Klemenz, Teacher, Yellow Grass School and Andrea Kerr, Teacher, Fillmore are the teachers who signed their schools up to the program.
