For the second year in a row, the Flin Flon Bombers are off to the Canalta Cup finals. They advanced to the SJHL finals with a 3-0 win over the Nipawin Hawks Tuesday night, capping off a nearly impossible comeback.

The Hawks originally had a 3 games to 1 lead in the best of seven series, before the Bombers began the comeback, which culminated in the win in game seven on home ice.

Nate Hooper, who was named the SJHL’s rookie of the week just before the game, showed why he was deserving of the honours, scoring just over four minutes into the game. The unassisted goal would stand as the game winner, but the Bombers would continue. Jason Lavallee scored in the second period, and Hooper would add an empty netter to finish the night off.

The Bombers will now take on the Battlefords North Stars in the finals. The two teams met last year in the semifinals, and Flin Flon upset the Battlefords, winning the series in five games. No dates have been set for the start of the series, but it is expected to begin this weekend, in North Battleford.
