The Weyburn Beavers didn’t get the start to the 2016 WMBL season they were hoping for, as they fell 5-3 to the Regina Red Sox in Regina Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers were first to get on the board in the sixth inning, when Jordan Anderson drive in Ethan Mushitz with a fielder’s choice. The Red Sox came back to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh, though, as Eric Evans who came on in relief, gave up two runs.

The Beavers tied the game up in the eighth, when Dan Moro brought home Ty Scott. Regina took the lead again in the bottom of the inning, though, putting three runs on the board off of relief pitcher Austin Perez. Mushitz drove in Colin Rintoul in the top of the ninth, but that was all the offense the Beavers could muster for the game.

Cole Feazell got the start for the Beavers, and went six innings, striking out three and walking two, while giving up five hits. Ben Schweinfurth had the start for the Red Sox, going eight, striking out three, and giving up two runs and seven hits.

The Beavers are back in action Tuesday, when they travel to Moose Jaw to face the Miller Express.
