Friday, Weyburn and area put the community into the word Communithon.

Over the course of 15 hours, people took in the entertainment on the stage at the Royal Canadian Legion on 3rd Street, whether by watching on television, the live stream on the internet or in person, and pledged their money. By the time the 40th edition of the annual telethon wrapped up at 11:00 p.m. Friday night, Weyburn and area had exceeded their goal.

"Our goal was $82,021 and we raised $85,877.00," shared Communithon Committee Chair Korryn Kubashek. "We had like 15,000 come in within the last couple hours. It was unbelievable.

Kubashek said they were surprised so many people went in and out throughout the day.

"It was it was a really good event. We didn't know what to expect, but it turned out amazing," she said. "There was quite a bit of different opportunities, different acts. We had a dog act, we had the high school football team go against the Gold Wing girls. The girls won. Woo Hoo!"

"It was a great day. We had like the gymnastics club, did a video we had Figure skaters videos. We wanted to showcase community because that's what community is all about, is our community," she said.

She note it was nice to have both live and virtual performances.

"I'm still flying high! Like, it's unbelievable the experience to be leading this committee, and you know what? They're fantastic. The volunteers are fantastic. The performers were fantastic. It was just all around an excellent event."

She added if anybody is interested in joining their board to just reach out to any of their board members.

"It was a lot of hours but you know what? It's all worth it. These programs and services that the agencies you need here in town are so beneficial for our community. It was difficult times, but you know what? We pulled through. And the community of Weyburn showed up and donated and made it another successful year."

The money raised during the telethon goes towards the 11 member agencies of Communithon, which are all organizations that are present in our community.
