An annual tradition deeply rooted in Bavarian heritage and agricultural history will return to Weyburn on October 14th. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 invites members of the community aged 19+ to enjoy an evening of live music, traditional foods, and tankards of liquid gold in support of the upkeep and maintenance of their treasured venue. Weyburn's own Jason Hill is particularly excited to be one of the performing acts scheduled for the evening.

"We're called Switch! There's 5 local guys from town and we've been together now for 16 years. We play everything from '60's Rock to present day Rock and '60's Country to present day Country. We always have a lot of fun and have 5 upcoming shows booked with Oktoberfest being one of them. It's pretty exciting, especially playing with Last Tain West! That's another local band playing before us. Again, all local guys, one of them is even my brother."

Hill shared that before the musical acts take the stage, another local performer will be there to warm up the crowd with his quick wit and charm. Ryan Skjerdal is set to display another of his many talents- this time as a Comic. Partygoers are encouraged to arrive early and catch his stand-up act beginning at 6:30 p.m. to get a jump-start on the fun.

In addition to entry-ticket and food and refreshment sales, the Legion has also organized a 50/50 Raffle to help raise funds for the maintenance of their building. With 1,000 tickets available and a maximum prize of $10,000 on the line, members of the community are urged to get in on the draw before time runs out. 50/50 tickets are available at the lounge for just $20 each, but members of the Legion will also be making appearances at the Co-op Grocery Store and Wholesale Club this Thursday and Saturday respectively. Additional ways to purchase your tickets can be found on the Legion's Facebook Page

While bottomless refreshments, non-stop entertainment, and abundant bratwurst are all crucial elements of a suitable Oktoberfest celebration, the event would still be incomplete without one key ingredient: The proper attire. To encourage a great turnout of well-dressed attendees, the Legion has organized a special draw reserved only for those indulging in the traditional German dress code; Lederhosen for men and Dirndl for women. Don your best 'Tracht' to build upon the cultural immersion while also earning a chance at winning a unique prize.

The third annual Oktoberfest celebration will be held at the Weyburn Legion on Saturday, October 14th beginning at 6:00 p.m. Entertainment begins at 6:30 with comedy from Ryan Skjerdal, and musical performances by Last Train West and Switch extending through the rest of the night. All funds raised are in support of the Weyburn Legion Branch 47, so invite your friends and family to take part in this Bavarian tradition and enjoy connecting with the community.
