September 7th, 2018 was the opening reception for the show, which is called Pour it Out.

Curator with the City of Weyburn and the Weyburn Arts Council, Regan Lanning introduced Heather saying:
"Heather moved to Weyburn around 20 years ago and has definitely changed it for the better. I was lucky enough to serve with her on numerous art boards, arts council, and then later on the Art Farm board... Where would we be without Art Farm? I mean... that changed everything, didn't it?"

Heather took a few moments to speak about the show and where it came from. Here's an excerpt from that speech:

Heather began her speech by confirming rumours that her farm, also the location of Art Farm, is for sale. It hasn't sold yet, so after her artist in residence in Nova Scotia, she will be returning. However, she will not be booking another show at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery.

During her speech, Heather expressed gratitude to many people who have influenced her life during her years in Weyburn. She thanked Abraham, her husband, for supporting her with all her ideas and whims. She thanked Rickee-Lee, her daughter, who she will be living vicariously though as she studies fine arts at Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. Heather also thanked everyone who has supported her creative endeavours, mentioning the names of Mel Van Betuw, Tory and Ron Metheral, Susan and Gene Minard, her friend Sandra, among others both present and not.

Heather's pursuit of art here in Weyburn began as an urge to play and experiment en plein air(outdoors), which, as she mentioned in her speech, isn't very practical in the varied climate of Saskatchewan. She has produced art in many styles and mediums over the years, adding her own flair to commissions and serious pieces. Now she has found her way back to a different kind of playful exploration with alterations of a popular technique, acrylic paint pouring.

The artwork in this show, both literal and abstract, is incredible. Heather has taken the abstraction of a paint pour and altered the image to accentuate the imagery she sees. There is also one pour left unaltered for the viewer to experience and find their own imagery.

All of the artwork in the show is available for purchase. There is a price list in the gallery, at the front desk at the Library, and available by contacting Regan at weyburnartscouncil@weyburn.ca.

The show is on until the end of October at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery in the lower level of the Weyburn Public Library.
