An unusual phone call received by a business in the South East Cornerstone Public School Division leading to an advisory from the division itself.

“They indicated they had a lady call them to solicit a donation on behalf of the school division, but it was a fraudulent activity,” explained Keith Keating, the Deputy Director of Education with SECPSD.

Keating pointed out the school division rarely does any fundraising themselves, with those efforts generally done at the school level. The business was located in the west area of the school division, which is Weyburn and area, but Keating cautioned it could happen in any area.

If someone receives a call from a person asking for donations for the school division, Keating asks for residents of the region to notify the local school, or the school division office, to determine if it was a legitimate call or not.
