The Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division said they're happy with how Weyburn Comprehensive School staff, administrators, and teachers conducted themselves during a lockdown earlier this week.

Deputy Director of Education Keith Keating told Discover Weyburn the six-minute-long lockdown taking place just before noon on Tuesday went according to school protocols.

The incident required intervention from the Weyburn Police Service, who were called about an individual in crisis who talked about a weapon at the school.

The officer who responded arrested a youth for uttering threats. The youth was in custody at the time of a release from the WPS detailing their involvement. No weapon was found by the Weyburn Police Service, nor do they believe one was involved.

In a written release, the police indicated they were made aware of social media posts about two other individuals who were intent on causing harm. Police do not necessarily believe the validity of the social media posts but would like to speak to the individuals out of caution.

The Weyburn Police Service urges anyone on social media to think first about what they post, and the potential damage it could have to not only individuals but the community, whether true or not.

Principal at Weyburn Comprehensive School, Ryan Fowler, sent an email to parents. In the email, he stated there was no immediate danger or threat to staff or students, and the lockdown process is used to ensure everyone's safety, and at times, to protect the dignity of all.
