With Canada Day only a week away and there still being a number of provincial restrictions in place it's a good thing that the City of Weyburn has still been able to plan out a day full of events for the community to enjoy.

"This year will be a little bit different than it has been typically, however, we are able to offer a few things this year," said Tina Clay, Program Manager at the City of Weyburn. "At 10:00 AM the day starts off with a flag ceremony that's led by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 Colour Guard at the Leisure Centre outdoor grounds."

Event capacity is up to 150 people on a first-come, first-serve basis and patrons must check-in at the front desk in the Leisure Centre upon arrival.

Following the flag ceremony, the City will be offering three allotted public swim sessions for free. Anyone interested is required to register ahead of time through the City's online booking portal. (Registration will be open two days before Canada Day)

You can choose from the following swim times that are available:

  • 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • 1:00-3:00 p.m.
  • 3:30-5:00 p.m.

Then they will be finishing off the day with fireworks at dusk (which is usually at about 10:30 PM) and they will be shot off at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's Exhibition Grounds that is accessible from Mergens Street.

The City of Weyburn does ask that all of the current provincial guidelines be followed during all of the events taking place on Canada Day.

"We have known that we wouldn't be able to plan too much for this event but we are looking forward to having a bigger event in 2022."

She added that she wanted to thank Sask Lottering and the Government of Canada for funding this event.
