The Weyburn Golf Club is getting set for a May 15th opening, as it takes advantage of the relaxation of some aspects of the public health order as part of the provincial government’s plan to re-open Saskatchewan.

There are a number of guidelines the course will need to follow as part of the public health order when players take to the links for the first time this season. One adjustment many will have to make is the inability to hit the driving range to get warmed up or to get the bad swings out of the system before they play the first hole.

Other rules which are in place as part of the guidelines include having a raised cup, with the flag remaining in place; physical distancing must be observed at all times; only one person per golf cart unless members of the same household; tee times 20 minutes apart, and must be booked in advance; signage indicating the risks of COVID-19; curbside service for food and beverage only, and the closure of all on-course washrooms. Locker rooms will also be closed, lessons, league play and tournaments are prohibited and all rakes and ball washers must be removed from the course.

The Weyburn Golf Club will start accepting tee times for members on May 8th, and the general public can start booking their tee times on May 10th. Going forward, paid members will be able to book a tee time seven days in advance and the general public five days.

All tee times must be prepaid, as the pro shop will be closed to the public. It is recommended, if booking tee times for a group, that one payment is made for all the golfers, as opposed to each individual golfer calling in to pay.

For food and beverage service, the plan for the Weyburn Golf Club is to have golfers call ahead and order their food, making a payment over the phone. From there, they will be able to do the curbside pickup for the food, similar to how many restaurants are handling their food services. There will also be signage posted on the 8th and 17th holes explaining the process.
