If you knew your special someone was only given three months to live, wouldn’t you want to marry them as soon as possible?

While no couple truly knows how much time they will have together in this life, Jennifer May and fiance Jason Court decided to get married after Court was told by doctors that he had only three months to live.

A simple request on social media sparked a major response from the community, which resulted in a special Valentine’s Day wedding being held in Weyburn last night.

May had been planning a humble wedding at the hospital. She asked her Facebook friends to help her find fabric dye so she could prepare a previously-worn bridesmaid’s dress to be her wedding dress.

Friend Rose McInnes felt for the couple. She said she was compelled to find May a new wedding dress.

“I just felt she deserved to have this beautiful dress, especially soon to be losing Jay,” she said.

She put out a call for assistance, and the response she received was overwhelming.

“I put a post on my Facebook [to see] if anybody wanted to help out with this, and all of a sudden I have my friends and acquaintances just sending me money to help purchase this dress,” she explained, noting that more social media posts were made and the wedding grew.

“So many people just jumped on board just from hearing about it,” she added.

She said it all came together in under six days, and before long, the wedding warranted a larger venue.

“Once people started not only just helping, the word was getting out about the wedding,” explained McInnes. “More and more people wanted to come to the wedding, and then we outgrew the venue in the hospital basement.”

She said the Captain’s Hall was able to be booked at only two days’ notice.

In fact, everything was freely donated to the couple, including Jennifer’s brand new dress, Jason’s shirt and tie, and even shirts for the couple’s two sons, as well as the venue, decorations, food, photography and videography, and flowers.

“Jen wasn't asking for any of it, I mean [she did want] the wedding, but she wasn't asking for a new dress, she wasn't asking for the flowers,” said McInnes. “It was, ‘if somebody could get me some dye’. And that's what spiralled it all. I needed to do something, I was compelled to. She's living my nightmare.”

The heartfelt response resulted in something beautiful. McInnes said while it may not have been the fanciest wedding, it was much more than the couple had hoped for when they set out to wed.

“Jen wanted to get married,” explained McInnes. “She wanted to be able to say she got married in her lifetime. She has already said that once Jay is gone, there will be no one else. She married her soul mate.”

She said there were 65 people in attendance, making for a beautiful and memorable wedding for the couple and their family.
