It's the end of an era in Weyburn. The demolition of the former Weyburn Inn building is underway.

Crews are hacking away at the large building with two excavators and a bobcat. The former hotel, built in 1976, is approximately 35,000 square feet.

Barber Motors purchased the Weyburn Inn property last year and was granted approval by City Council for the demolition last March. The auto-dealer purchased the Weyburn Inn lot adjacent to its Government Road location in hopes of expanding its parking lot.

All that will remain of the former hotel when crews are done is a 6,500-square-foot concrete slab around nine-feet underground and whatever remains below an addition built in 1982. General Manager of Barber Motors Andy Barber said the demolition and backfilling should be complete by the end of April.
