variety of lovable barnyard animals will soon be at Weyburn’s Therapeutic Animal Park for the summer.

Just last month, the park was at risk of closing its gates, with not enough volunteers or funds to move forward.

A steak supper fundraiser held on Saturday night has helped the Sealy family to ensure their goal could be met for keeping the park open.

“It was a busy night, it was a fun night, a good fundraiser it was very prosperous for the animal park,” said Norma Sealy. “So now Don can get busy and get the animals in.”

The steak supper raised approximately five thousand dollars. More than one hundred tickets sold for the event, which also featured a silent auction, live auction, and a fifty-fifty draw.

Everyone will soon be able to go visit the miniature ponies, goats, lambs, peacocks, geese and more animals at the Therapeutic Animal Park.

“There will be a good variety,” said Sealy, who noted that the pond has to be prepared before the birds can be brought in to reside at the park for the summer.

A call for volunteers was placed a few weeks ago for manual labour helpers to work at the park. They have found help, but could always use more to lighten the maintenance duties.

Volunteers were also called to be board members. The first board meeting of the newly-formed committee for the park will take place tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Credit Union Community room. Anyone who still wants to join the committee is welcome to attend.

There is no charge to go and visit the animals. The Therapeutic Animal Park is located on Souris Valley Road across from the Tatagwa View nursing home and is open to the public for the summer.
