Over the next couple weeks, Weyburn will see some changes to city sidewalks.

"As part of our budget process every year the city of Weyburn sets aside a certain amount of funds to go towards, I'm going to use the term retrofit old existing sidewalks, to allows for the accessible ramps to ease access for pedestrians and others that may have mobility issues," says Claude Morin, Superintendent of Public Works and Parks for the City of Weyburn.

Weyburn has completed the downtown area in previous years and are now beginning to branch out into some areas frequented by pedestrians.

"This year the work is being done primarily in the area around Haig School on Coteau Avenue," says Morin. "The work is scheduled to proceed sometime in the next couple weeks, we are just working out the logistics."

The accessible nature of the corners was perhaps not as high of a concern when they were first built. Allowing everyone to use the sidewalks safely is the cities main concern.
