After a couple months of investigation, Weyburn police made several arrests Thursday related to the trafficking of cocaine in the city. A total of eight searches turned up a moderate amount of cocaine, an unknown substance, and $45,000 in cash.

Chief Marlo Pritchard of the Weyburn Police Service said they found a moderate amount of cocaine in the searches, which started at 6:30 a.m Thursday with three search warrants served in Weyburn. They served five more throughout the day; two more in Weyburn, two in Yellow Grass, and one in Francis.

"We still have an unknown substance, whether it's heroin will depend on what the crime lab sends us back. It might be something similar or something totally different, we don't know that. We did seize some cocaine."

Pritchard said the amount of cocaine seized in the raids was approximately two ounces.

As a result of the searches, three men in their mid-to-early-20s are facing charges of trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine, proceeds of crime over $5,000, and one who is also facing a charge of resisting arrest. Pritchard said more charges are pending.

The men have been remanded in custody. Their first court date is Monday in Estevan.

Pritchard said without the help of a number of different police agencies they could not have done successfully accomplished the raids and arrests.

"RCMP, Estevan and the CFSEU were crucial to the successes of what we did."

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) is a combined unit of RCMP members and Regina Police Service members that work in drug investigations out of Regina.
