The “Devious Licks” trend started on the social media app Tik Tok. While many didn’t take it seriously, at first, it is now starting to pop up in incidents across the province, and the country, including here in Weyburn.

The trend prompted Weyburn Comprehensive School to send out an email to parents this week, explaining what the trend is. Principal at WCS, Ryan Fowler, stated the challenge sees students stealing various items from schools, particularly the bathroom, and then posting their exploits on social media.

“We had heard about it this week, then experienced a bit of the trend at our school,” Fowler added.

For the students who are involved with the incidents connected to the ‘Devious Licks’ trend, while it may be posted onto social media for clout, it could often have other consequences. With that information in mind, Fowler explained this is a good reason why parents should talk about social media, and what students are following, liking and posting.

“Check out your son or daughter’s social media accounts and see what they’re watching, see what they following, see what they’re liking,” Fowler said. “Because there’s some things out there that are not necessarily the best for our community.”

That said, the principal did point out that for the most part, the student body at WCS is respectful of the school, and don’t anticipate the trend being much of an issue at the school, but wanted to ensure the community, and the parents of students, were aware of the situation.
