The Canadian Western Agribition continues to be a successful event for a cattle-farming family from Radville.

"We are showing 15 head of Black Angus at the Canadian Agribition Angus Show," said Trent Liebreich, Owner, Merit Cattle Company.

"Within that entry of fifteen we had three females that were entered into The First Lady Classic, an interbreed yearling heifer show."

Leibreich added that the culmination of that is the Futurity where they had one entry in the Merck Animal Health First Lady Classic Futurity.

"In order to be eligible, she has to have been shown as a yearling in the first lady classic show, the year prior. Any female returning with calf at the side as a two-year-old is eligible to enter the Futurity and that is what we won."

The Futurity, which took place Wednesday, had a return of 25% of heifers that were shown in the 2016 First Lady Classic at Agribition.

"The cattle that won the Futurity this year was shown in the First Lady Classic last year."

Agribition is a family event for the Leibreichs who have been going to Agribition off and on for decades.

"We have shown here over the years, starting in the 80's. Not every year but over the years we have had cattle here."

The family stopped showing at Agribition over time as they got busy with other activities but the children's interest in exhibiting led them to get more involved.

Leibreich added that it was very gratifying to win as they had some very strong competition and that it is extremely rewarding for the amount of work the entire family puts in to get them to this point.

Agribition has also been a great opportunity for other members of the family.

Macy Leibreich, daughter of Trent and his wife Janelle, won a scholarship earlier in the week. She won the $1500 William M. Farley Memorial Scholarship.

The bull calf that was shown in the First Lady Classic Futurity with the cow has since been sold in the Saskatchewan Angus Masterpiece for $52,000 for half interest.

Agribition finished yesterday and saw thousands of people visit including countries from all over the world.
