The Weyburn Red Wings wrapped up their four-game homestand capturing seven out of a possible eight points, with a 2-1 win over the Yorkton Terriers Saturday night. Arik Weersink made 33 saves to secure the victory, including 12 in the second and third periods. With the win, the Red Wings are now two points back of the Estevan Bruins for first in the Viterra Division, while still holding two games in hand.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening period, but the Terriers put up a valiant effort. They outshot Weyburn 12-6 over the course of the period and dominated play at times. In the second period, though, the Red Wings came out firing.

With 18 shots on goal, the Wings were able to score with just over three minutes left in the period when Erik Olson put the puck past Joe Marcouiller on the powerplay. Ben Hiltz and Mike Eskra were credited with the assists.

In the third period, Carson Scheschuk scored his second goal in three games, when he jumped up to join the power play about a wrist shot on a feed from Landon Walters into the net. Dylan McCabe was credited with the other assist.

The Terriers then scored a goal on an odd shot from the side of the net. Chantz Petruic was trying to throw the puck in front of the net from the right wing corner, when it was re-directed, and caught Weersink off-guard. The Weyburn goalie tried to make a play on it, but it was too late, and the goal stood. From thereon in, however, he kept the Terriers off the board to preserve the win.

The Red Wings now prepare for a home-and-home series next weekend, when they travel to Estevan on Friday. The return engagement will be in Weyburn next Saturday.
