The Bienfait Coalers would score at least two goals a period Sunday night, as they came out on top in Wawota, beating the Flyers 7-5. The win moves Bienfait to 3-3 on the season, while the Flyers are 4-2 on the year.

The Flyers opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the game. Taylor Ernst would beat Jackson Walliser, assisted by Riley Riddell and Dillon Frater.

The Coalers reply shortly after, as Dillon Herzberg would beat Guillaume Blouin at the 1:38 mark of the opening period. The goal was assisted by Dallas Kickley and Ryan Curzon.

The tie would last until later in the period, when Linden Poirier scored for Wawota, with Ernst and Riddell assisting on the goal. The goal with 4:43 remaining in the first period would be the last lead in the game Wawota would hold.

The Coalers responded with just 33 seconds left on the clock as Herzberg notched his second of the period. The marker was assisted by Curzon and Preston Grierson.

Bienfait extended the lead at the 7:31 mark of the second period as Herzberg completed the hat trick. His third of the night was assisted by Dylan Lay and Kickley. His goal with 11:02 left in the middle period was assisted by Riddell, who would finish the game with four assists, and by Kayle Swanson.

The Coalers needed just 76 seconds to regain the lead. Derian Pratt beat Blouin to make it 4-3 for the visiting team. Kickley and Herzberg assisted on the goal.

There was no more scoring in the second, but the Coalers would open the lead up to two goals in the third. With 16:09 remaining in regulation, Keegan Malaryk scored, assisted on the goal by Dillon Griffin. It wouldn’t be long before the lead was cut back down to just one goal, though.

The Coalers restored the lead as the two teams exchanged goals throughout the period. It would be Herzberg’s fourth of the night to again make it a two-goal lead. Jayden Storozuk and Matt Bourassa had the helpers on the tally.

The Flyers would respond with 4:29 remaining in regulation. Kris Gilbertson scored the goal, assisted by Ernst and Blouin, shrinking the deficit to 6-5. A late goal with less than a minute on the clock from Malaryk would seal the deal, though, giving Bienfait the 7-5 win.

The next game for the Flyers will be against Arcola/Kisbey on December 18th, although they are trying to work on a game against Redvers which has yet to be set. For the Coalers, they are taking on Kipling/Windthorst on Friday night.
