The Weyburn Beavers are working to close the gap for home-field advantage in the first round of the WMBL playoffs. They beat the Swift Current 57’s 6-0 Sunday night, moving them to within a half game of Swift Current for second place in the East Division.

Austin Gurr had a great outing for the Beavers, going seven innings, and striking out three. He went until the 4th inning before giving up a hit and only allowed two all game. Beau Rabedeaux and Eric Evans finished the game off, pitching an inning each.

Ulysses Fluellen had two RBI for the Beavers, the first coming in the first inning, as his single to center field cashed in Luis Jimenez. Weyburn would add two more runs in the second, as Brett Young and Luis Jimenez each drove in a run.

The game became a defensive stand still from there, until the top of the ninth inning when the Beavers added three more runs. Ulysses Fluellen brought in Josh Trybuch, and Anthony Wiggins scored Evan Weidner and Brett Young.

The Beavers will now get a day off before they host the Moose Jaw Miller Express Tuesday night.
