The Weyburn Red Wings will be looking to make it two wins in a row Friday night, as they play host to the Humboldt Broncos at Crescent Point Place. The Wings are coming off a 2-1 victory in overtime against the Yorkton Terriers last Saturday. As for the Broncos, their last game was also against the Terriers, but was an 8-7 loss on Tuesday.

Weyburn enters the game in first place in the Viterra Division, with a record of 4-2. They are also undefeated at home this season, just one of three teams to have those bragging rights. Weyburn has also been strong at scoring when it comes to playing on home ice, with 19 goals for, and just six against. Their goal differential is a whopping +13 in just three games. It is the second highest at home in the league, behind only Flin Flon, who is +14 with two more games played.

Leading the way this season for the Red Wings has been Ben Hiltz. The third-year forward with the Wings is continuing where he left off last season, and currently leads the team with 14 points (8G, 4A). Right behind him is captain Cade Kowalski, who is also finishing what he started last season with 13 points in six games (4G, 9A). On a line with Jordan Kazymyra (4G, 5A) they have been a thorn in the side of their opposition all season. What helps even more is the depth the Wings have through the line up.

Nearly every skater on the roster has a point so far, and they have seen offensive production from the blue line, and the other three forward lines this season. The well-balanced attack of the Red Wings will cause issues for anyone who they play, especially when the crowd is behind the Wings.

In the crease, Riley Lamb has been leading the way for the Red Wings. With a GAA of 2.50, he hasn’t been a slouch in the crease. His save percentage of .945 shows he is at the top in terms of calibre. Cody Levesque is the real deal as well. The rookie has a shutout, and a save percentage of .913. He’s also allowed just two goals so far this season, with a GAA of 1.67.

The Humboldt Broncos have been having a phenomenal season themselves. They had a six-game winning streak, snapped only by the 8-7 overtime loss to the Terriers. Up front they have been led by Brayden Camrud, one of the returning players from last season. Camrud has 13 points so far this year (7G, 6A). Right behind him is Michael Clarke, acquired from the Calgary Canucks in the offseason.

The bright spot for the Broncos has been the play of their goaltenders. Dane Dow has played the majority of the games, and has posted an impressive 2.71 GAA and a .911 save percentage. Even more surprising has been the play of his backup, Rayce Ramsay. The rookie has played in two games, and won them both, with a GAA of 0.97, and a save percentage of .977.

Special teams are always the biggest indicator as to how well a team will perform in the long run. For the Red Wings, they have been deadly with the man advantage. They have scored nine power play goals so far this season, converting at 28.1 percent. When they are short-handed, it is tough to score on them as well, with the penalty kill sitting at 92.6 percent. It is the top in the league in both categories.

For the Broncos, they are coming into the game Friday with a power play which is in the middle of the pack. They have converted just 19.5 percent of the chances they have had. Their penalty kill has been average as well, working at an 83.3 percent efficiency.

The puck drops on the contest at 7:30 p.m. at Crescent Point Place.
