Addison Greve finished the opening game of the Esso Cup with a pair of assists, and Ella Schenher had one herself, but the Regina Rebels still ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard in a 7-6 overtime loss against the North York Storm Sunday afternoon.

The Rebels, who also have Weyburn’s Rayna Hennie on the roster, started the game scoring just 35 seconds in, as Berlin Lolacher found the back of the net, with Greve getting the assist on the goal. Then, Regina made it 2-0 when Lolacher scored her second of the game on the power play, assisted by Avery Gottselig.

The Storm responded just before the halfway mark of the period, when Sydney Bowness scored to make it 2-1. Lily Paisley and Isabella Mariano had the assists on the tally.

The two-goal lead would be restored for the Rebels when Gottselig scored a goal of her own late in the first. Carys Cross and Schenher had the assist on the goal with 1:30 left in the opening frame.

Stryker Zablocki would then make it a 4-1 game just 42 seconds into the second period, with Brooklyn Nimegeers assisting on the goal.

The Storm, though, would come roaring back with four straight goals to take the lead. It started with a marker from Maren Capannelli, then Demi Lazarou scored, followed by Olivia VanSickle to tie the game 4-4. North York then took the lead when Sydney Bowness scored with 90 seconds to play in the third, making it 5-4 for the team from Ontario.

Regina would even things up early in the third, just 42 seconds in, when Lolacher scored her third of the game, assisted by Greve, evening the score at 5-5. Regina then regained the lead just past the halfway mark as Cedar Swan, assisted by Gottselig scored.

North York, though, wasn’t done. Paisley would score a power play goal with just under six minutes to play to make it 6-6. The game would go to overtime, and there, Bowness scored 4:22 into the extra period to give the Storm the win.

The Rebels will look to bounce back as they are back in action Monday afternoon. They play the champions from Quebec, L'Intrépide de l'Outaouais.
