The do’s and don'ts of recycling can sometimes be overlooked. With that in mind, the City of Weyburn, along with their partners for the city’s recycling program, GFL, are looking for ways to let residents know what they can, and can’t, put into their blue bins.

Paige Tenbult is a communications coordinator with the City of Weyburn. She said over the summer, there was a campaign done via social media to let people know what some of these rules were.

“But we thought, doing another one this month in September, why not do something fun and exciting with video, and we teamed up with one of your co-workers and it just worked out really well to get this message out in a different way,” Tenbult told Discover Weyburn.

“It started out as something small and then Paige and Adam had this video idea and it was just so much fun to put together,” added BIG106 Morning Show host Dara Currie, who teamed up with the City of Weyburn’s Tenbult and Adam Hoffart.

So, what have the residents of Weyburn thought about the campaign so far?

“We’ve had some really good feedback,” said Tenbult. “Facebook and Twitter are awesome, you can look at your insights and know how many people are viewing and sharing, and it’s been a really successful campaign for us so far.”

The success of the campaign has the communications team at the City of Weyburn looking at possibly using similar, light-hearted methods to get the word out about things such as recycling going forward.

“If residents love what we’re doing right now, we will continue to do stuff like this,” Tenbult said.
