October is inclusion month in Saskatchewan, and this is why Inclusion Weyburn will be adding something new to their Halloween Dance on October 25th.

President Jackie Wilson said they'll be presenting 'The Spirit of Inclusion' certificates of recognition during the event.

"We've noticed in the city, a lot of businesses and organizations and individuals are really embracing inclusion and giving so much support to inclusion, and we want to start to recognize those people," she explained. "So starting on that night, we're going to hand out some certificates of recognition, and then in the following months, we will continue to have certificates to give to other people and we want to carry on and hopefully we never have to quit."

While the dance will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Dominic Place Gymnasium, Wilson said they'll be making the presentations at 7:00.

"We've noticed some sports teams and sports organizations that are doing good things to include our kids with intellectual disabilities," she continued. "We're noticing businesses who are hiring people with intellectual disabilities. There's just a lot of examples of people including, going above and beyond."

"Inclusion Weyburn certainly doesn't want to take credit for the community jumping on board with this," she noted. "This is just a good community of good, caring people, and it's happening, and we're just noticing it. We're hearing about it from other people and noticing it, but we just think it should be recognized."

"We're really excited about the Spirit of Inclusion award. We've been planning it for a while. We've been wanting to do it for a while. And we thought this was a good time to do it during inclusion month. That's a good time to kick it off, so that's what we're doing. We have a long list of people and businesses and organizations that we want to recognize."

Costumed families making last memories while dancing to 'The Monster Mash' and other great tunes is a seasonal highlight for many in our community.

"Dress up in your fun costume and join us there," shared Wilson about the dance. "We're treated to some fun activities. The Legacy Leads, a group of Grade Six students from Legacy Park Elementary School are going to be setting up stations of fun activities to do, and we'll have DJ Randy Bakaluk there to provide good music. He always does a fun job."

"For sure, wear costumes, because it's fun," she encouraged. "If you don't want to wear a costume, you don't have to."

She said they ask that kids who attend the dance be accompanied by an adult.
