It will be a busy weekend in senior hockey in the southeast, with a number of games in the Big Six and the QVHL on tap.

Big Six

The Big Six has seven games scheduled for their final weekend before the Christmas break. The results of the games could have some impact on who is where in the standings, with a number of teams tied for second and third.

The weekend kicks off in Kipling, as the Carlyle Cougars take on the Kipling/Windthorst Oil Kings Friday night. The Cougars are currently in first place in the league with a record of 6-2-2. The Oil Kings are 3-5.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings will travel to Redvers for their game Friday against the Rockets. The Wheat Kings are 6-1 on the season, while the 5-and-2 Rockets are coming off a win over the Carnduff Red Devils on Wednesday.

The Midale Mustangs will host the Oxbow Huskies in the Harry O Memorial Arena in the third game Friday. The Mustangs are two points up on the Huskies in the standings. The two teams will then meet up again Saturday night in Oxbow, closing out the season series between the two teams.

Saturday night, the Wheat Kings will finish off the first half of the schedule with a home game against the Red Devils. The puck will drop on the game at 7:00 p.m.

The Wawota Flyers will play their final game before Christmas Saturday, as the Oil Kings come to town. Wawota is amongst the group of teams tied with 10 points in the standings.

The final game of the weekend in the Big Six will see the Arcola/Kisbey Combines with a tough task ahead of them. Still looking for their first win of the season, they will host the Carlyle Cougars at 8:00 p.m.

QVHL

In the QVHL, there will be four games on deck ahead of the Christmas break. It all starts Friday night as the Grenfell Spitfire host the Whitewood Orioles. The Spitfires enter the game in second place in the six-team circuit with a record of 6-2-0-1, while Whitewood is looking for their third win of the season.

The other game Friday night has the first place Balgonie Bisons hosting the Balcarres Broncs. The puck drops on the game at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, the Orioles will host the Broncs as both teams play their final games of 2018. Meanwhile, the Spitfires will be on the road. They head to Milestone to take on the Flyers.
