After a month of accolades for the Weyburn Red Wings for their winning streak that catapulted them to first in the Viterra Division, players are now receiving individual honors as well, hot off the heels of Jordan Kazymyra being named rookie of the week earlier this month.

This week, Cade Kowalski has earned the honors of rookie of the week. The 18-year-old forward from Morden, Manitoba notched six points on the four-game road swing through the Sherwood Division. He is currently second among all rookies in points.

The defenseman of the week is Erik Olson. The second-year blueliner for the Wings demonstrated his offensive skills while up north, racking up four goals and two assists over the four games. While Olson is an offensive threat for the Wings, he is also very strong on the backend, with his play helping to limit the goals against to just nine over the four games against potent offensive teams in the Sherwood Division.

The player of the week is Weyburn’s own Ben Hiltz. The speedy 18-year-old forward is coming into his own in the SJHL this year, as he notched nine points in the four games in northern Saskatchewan. He scored three goals, including the lone goal against Nipawin Saturday, and added six assists. While his start to the season was a little slow, he now has 19 points in 13 games this season.

The runner-up for the goaltender of the week is Carter Phair. In his 3rd year with the team, the 19-year-old won two of his three starts in the Sherwood Division road swing. He posted a GAA of 2.33 in those three games. So far this season, he has a 5-1-1 record, with a GAA of 1.98, and a save percentage of .952.

The Red Wings are gearing up for what will be a busy two weeks, with six games between now and next Saturday. It starts out Wednesday night in Melville.
