The time atop the Viterra division was short-lived for the Weyburn Red Wings, as they fell to second place, after falling 3-2 to the Melville Millionaires in Melville Wednesday night.

The Millionaires opened the scoring in the first period, when Keegan Milligan recorded his first of the season at the 13:42 mark. The Red Wings wasted little time responding, as Donovan Lumb beat Melville netminder Trevor Martin just 21 seconds later, tying the game. Lumb's goal came when a shot on goal from Jake MacLachlan from the right wing point ended up on his stick in the slot, and he wristed it in.

In the second period, the Red Wings jumped out to a lead, when Aidan Teilborg, on the forecheck, intercepted a pass while he was all alone in the slot. He fired it on goal, beating Martin, and giving the Wings a 2-1 lead. That lead didn't last long once the third period started. A loose puck after an attempted wraparound was in front of Red Wings goalie Jack Burgart, and Dalton Menke of the Millionaires and a Red Wing defenseman both tried to play the puck. It ended up going up and over Burgart, and in for the goal.

The Red Wings poured on the pressure to try to regain the lead, but with just over three minutes left in the period, the Millionaires scored the go-ahead goal, making it 3-2. A strong forecheck and trap from the Millionaires kept the Wings hemmed deep in their own zone, and ate time off the clock, leading to the victory.

The Red Wings loss does cause a bit of a log jam at the top of the Viterra division standings. The Estevan Bruins beat the Flin Flon Bombers at home last night, giving the Bruins 43 points on the season, one point back of the Red Wings. The Wings are two points back of the first place Millionaires.

Next action fro the Red Wings will be Friday night, when they host the Bombers. Puck drops at Crescent Point Place at 7:30 p.m.
