SGI has applied for a rate increase of 5.2 percent to take effect August 31st of this year.

The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel is holding public meetings to access the Saskatchewan Auto Fund's application to adjust rates and get public feedback.

Meetings will be held in Regina April 7th at the Delta Regina and April 9th at the Delta Bessborough in Saskatoon, but Review Panel Chair Kathy Weber said exceptions can be made.

"There's a real need for the public to have a meeting in another location," she said. "We'd really appreciate it if they let us know. They can do so by going to our website and just letting us know that there's interest in a certain community to hold a public meeting and we'll try our best to accommodate that."

"Their participation is a critical part of the process that we undertake when we review a rate application," Kathy added. "What the public has to say really does have an impact on the process that we follow, so if the public has questions or concerns, we ensure that we delve into that with the crown and try and get an answer that we would provide to the public in our report at the end of the review."

She also said public opinions, "will impact the process that we follow when we're dealing with the crown in ensuring that the issues that they raise are fully covered by the panel in its review process, to make sure that what is happening at the crown level is actually the right direction for the crown to follow."

If you want your voice to be heard about the issue and you think our community should host a meeting, please call the Rate Review Panel at 1-877-368-7075 or use the Voice Your Opinion option on www.saskratereview.ca.
