While the long weekend started off strong with mild temperatures and nearly perfect weather to get outside for a barbeque, that weather is expected to cool down today and drop tomorrow. This is due to an arctic ridge that is being pushed down from the North, bringing cool temperatures throughout Saskatchewan. And with these low temperatures comes a risk of frost on Monday night.

While many producers in the southeast are wrapping up harvest and have most of their crop off the field, there are still some with later-seeded crops that could see some damage from this potential frost.

"I'm going to hope it doesn't go down to -4," explained Sherri Roberts, a Crops Extention Specialist for the southeast. "Luckily driving around the southeast I've noticed a lot of producers have their crops off the field. So they can sit back and laugh."

Though this is not the case for all producers. Roberts explains there are still some crops out there that are at risk, should there

"The biggest crop that would be affected would be the soybeans," Roberts said. "There's a lot of soybean fields out there. They just haven't had the time yet to fill out."

She says due to moisture issues earlier in the year, the maturity of soybean crops was slowed. She explains that the potential frost could cause damage to these crops should it dip that low overnight.
