The Weyburn Police Service became involved in an investigation on March 27th, resulting in one individual being charged with a number of firearm offenses.

“Basically as a result of an investigation, we recovered one firearm, a long gun, and then as the investigation continued, we were able to determine that a number of offenses had been committed by this person,” said Deputy Police Chief Rod Stafford

Charges include possession of a firearm without a license, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, unsafe storage of ammunition charges and more.

The investigation is still ongoing and the person is in custody pending his next court appearance.

March 25th

The Weyburn PS were dispatched to a residence regarding a domestic dispute. As a result of police attending an adult female was charged with Assault and will be making a court appearance. There were minor injuries.

March 26th

The Weyburn PS requested to do a well-being check on an adult male. While performing the check the male became very agitated threatening one of the Officers. The male was on a Court Ordered condition to be of good behavior. As a result of this he was arrested and charged for Breach of the Court Order.

March 27th

The Weyburn PS became involved in an investigation which led to an adult male being charged with numerous firearms offences, including, but not limited to, possession of a firearm without a license, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm. He has been remanded into custody pending his next court appearance.

The Weyburn PS conducted a check on a parked vehicle. An adult male was found sleeping inside. While interacting with male drugs were observed to be present. The male was arrested and has been charged with possession of cocaine.

The Weyburn PS has received numerous driving complaints regarding a white mustang vehicle. The vehicle has been located and the driver was arrested on outstanding warrants.

March 28th

The Weyburn PS received a call regarding a person who may be threatening self-harm. The person was located and was transported to the hospital for assessment.

March 30th

The Weyburn PS received a request to assist in removing people from a residence. As a result of police a male youth was found to be in Breach of a Court-ordered curfew. He was arrested and subsequently charged.

The Weyburn PS conducted a traffic stop. The male driver was found to be driving under the influence of cannabis, and although not impaired was the subject of the zero tolerance legislation due to his age. He was issued a 60-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for three days.

March 31st

The Weyburn PS were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in progress at a family home. As a result of attending an adult male was arrested for being intoxicated in public and held in cells until he was sober. No charges were
laid with respect to the domestic incident.

The Weyburn PS received a dispatch to a residence regarding a possible domestic issue. Once at the residence one adult male was arrested for Breach of the Peace and later released. Another male at the residence was known to have a warrant for an outstanding drug charge and was arrested and released for a future Court date.

Just a reminder that the Province-wide firearms amnesty is ongoing until April 19th. Anyone with unwanted firearms is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service who will pick them up from you and in turn have them destroyed. Please do not bring firearms to the police station!
