The midget AA Streamline Wings picked up a big win on home ice last night, as they topped the Lumsden/Bethune Lions 12-4 at Crescent Point Place last night. The Wings saw three players have five point nights, while two more had four point evenings in the victory.

Lumsden started out the game hot, scoring less than two minutes into the opening period, but the Wings came back quickly. Brayden Duke netted what would be his first of three on the night at the 3:18 mark of the period, with assists from Brayden Barsness and Rhett Nikolejsin. Todd Johnson then added a power play goal nine minutes later, giving the Wings the edge. Lumsden wasn’t finished, though, and tied the game up with 63 seconds left on the clock in the opening frame.

The Wings started the second period looking for the lead again, and they got it when Jake Roettger netted his third of the season, with Matthew Anderson and Luke Niemegeers getting the assists. Less than 50 seconds later, though, Lumsden tied it up again. From there, Weyburn turned on the offense, ensuring the Lions wouldn’t get the chance to stay in the game.

Nikolejsin scored his first of three on the night with just over five minutes remaining in the period, getting helpers from Duke and Barsness. Less than a minute later, Anderson got in on the scoring fun, with Johnson getting his second point of the night with the assist, and Braden Birnie getting an assist on the goal as well.

Weyburn started off the third period with a power play goal just fifty three seconds into the period, when Duke scored his second. Barsness got the assist on the goal. Anderson the scored his second of the night, with Birnie and Johnson adding the assists. The Wings added another power play goal just before the halfway mark, as Duke completed his hat trick, with Barsness and Nikolejsin once again helping out. Lumsden finally stopped the bleeding with a shorthanded goal ten seconds later, but it was too little too late.

Birnie would score just after the ten minute mark, with Duke getting credit for the assist. Nikolejsin then scored his second of the game, with Trey Stocker picking up the assist. Johnson put the puck in for his second power play goal of the evening, as Birnie recorded his third assist of the night, then Nikolejsin completed his hat trick, with Barsness recording his fifth assist of the evening.

In goal Jaxon Robertson picked up the win for the Wings, his tenth of the season.
