Weyburn will go down in history, at least for this year and last year, as being named best place to live on the prairies, and the best place to raise a family, thanks to Money Sense Magazine’s annual rankings released on Tuesday.

According to local historian and retired Weyburn schoolteacher, Jim Nedelcov, it’s no surprise.

“It’s been a well-known fact for a long time that Weyburn is the place to be if you want to raise a family and have all the amenities of life and not too many worries,” said Nedelcov.

“Anything you want, Weyburn’s got, and probably the best of what you can get. Weyburn is the place to be and that’s why we won that award of the best,” he added, noting that Regina is close enough to fill in the gaps of what we might be missing here.

Nedelcov is also a local historian and has published a book who was born and raised in the Opportunity City and raised his own family here as well.

“So many famous people, famous now because of their groundwork in Weyburn. That’s something else you have to be proud of, the people that we send out into the world to improve the world,” he noted.
