The SJHL quietly announced the winners of their year-end awards on Sunday, posting the results of the media votes to their website. The quiet announcement contained big news for Weyburn Red Wings fans, though.

Cade Kowalski was named the SJHL’s Rookie of the Year. He shares the award with Jacob Wasserman of the Humboldt Broncos after the pair ended up in a tie in the voting.

Kowalski, who hails from Morden, Manitoba, has been having a lights-out season for the Red Wings. He has averaged just over a point a game, with 58 in 57 games, including 10 goals. His performance this season has seen him earn Rookie of the Week honours on a number of occasions as well.

Kowalski was also invited to play at the SJHL/MJHL Showcase, which was held in Regina in January.
