An online auction was held over the weekend by Sharing Kailynn's Sunshine, a non-profit organization created in loving memory of Kailynn Bursic-Panchuk, whose injuries from a vehicle collision with a train near Highway 39 just south of Weyburn on August 16th, 2018, resulted in her passing away on August 22nd, just one day after her 17th birthday.

In all, $6,412 was raised during the weekend-long event held via Facebook.

"Numerous items were bid on at higher than value, including a Sticks game made by RMX Digital in Regina that was personalized to Sharing Kailynn's Sunshine," shared Sanda LaRose, Kailynn's mother. "The Sticks game was valued at $95, and sold for $205!"

During the auction, we spoke with Sharing Kailynn's Sunshine board member Hannah Grieve, while she was selling her artworks at the Gifted Art Market at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Grieve said it was great to be back for the anniversary weekend of the tragic event.

"I haven't been back in a little while," she shared. "We're going to go and take a look at our little highway sign out there and check and make sure it's all good."

"We are very happy that the auction seems to be going very well. We have lots of support from Weyburn still, and we are very excited to support Inclusion Weyburn, too. They were a very close organization to my heart. I worked there when Kailynn actually passed away."

She said having such supportive co-workers during such a difficult time was very helpful to her. "That was very nice," she noted. "They do so much good for the community, it's just such an amazing organization."

Inclusion Weyburn will be presented with a part of the proceeds of the auction following the Sharing Kailynn's Sunshine Annual General Meeting on September 13th.
