In their second to last game at home for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, they would welcome a team that they had not scored against in the first two meetings of the season between them, the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The Red Wings had a few bumps in the road throughout the game that end up giving them the loss 3-1.

The Ice Wolves were without their main starting goaltender Liam McGarva, who was awaiting a suspension that will be handed to him after an altercation with an official in the game before, and so Xavier Cannon would make his fifth start for the Ice Wolves after joining them late in the season. At the other end, the Red Wings countered with Douglas Wakelyn, who started his first SJHL game with the Wings in La Ronge.

The Ice Wolves are known for coming out quickly and trying to wear a team out in the first five minutes, and the Red Wings were able to survive the onslaught.

Connor Stephenson was playing the role of an agitator for the Red Wings, and he caused a play that resulted in the Wings getting a powerplay. He was parked in front of the net as his teammates battled behind the net, and his presence and shoving didn't sit well with Kaiden Collumb. The two started to battled it out, the whistle blew, both were getting penalties, and Collumb went a little too far. He got a crosschecking on top of it, and the Red Wings got a powerplay.

On that powerplay, the Wings started well and Rhett Frey and Jevon Schwean went back and forth along the sidewall to open up some space. Schwean to the middle for Kabir Gill, and he took a shot towards the net, and Dante Ballarin was in front of the net to tip it home and put the Wings up by one.

Five minutes later, and also five minutes left in the period, the Ice Wolves were able to strike back. Thanks to some offensive pressure, the Ice Wolves hemmed the Red Wings in their zone, and Ben Manson fired a shot on net that was tipped by Jake Chartier, but Wakelyn got a pad on it. The rebound popped out to a streaking Daylon Mannon, who slapped the puck home.

The second period was not a good one for the Wings. They surrendered a goal five minutes in on a weird play where Booker Chacalias found the puck in between the top of the circles and fired a wrist shot past Wakelyn and the puck bounced out quickly. Goal light on, but the referee waved the goal off. Play was stopped 19 seconds later, and the referees had a conference with the goal judge. After deliberations, the goal was allowed, and the 19 seconds that passed were added to the clock, the assists to Chad McIlwain and Logan Holm.

The officiating in this game was less than stellar throughout, and the second worst of two blatant missed calls in the period. Ballarin had a chance at a breakaway while chasing after a loose puck and as he touched it, he was hauled down from behind and play continued.

Shortly after the halfway mark, the Red Wings did something they hadn't done all season long: shorten the bench. Four forwards for the Red Wings did not see a shift on the ice in the final half of the second period, and they started to get some chances going, but a miscue end up in their net.

Spencer Kennedy for the Ice Wolves brought the puck into the Wings' zone on a two-on-two and Connor Stephenson was on the back check. A miscomunication for the Wings meant Stephenson took the same man as the defenceman, and Kennedy fired a shot off the inside pad of Wakelyn, the rebound to Nolan Doell. His quick shot was stopped, a scrum ensued, and Kennedy potted home on the rebound.

After 2: Weyburn 1 - 3 La Ronge, shots 29-21 La Ronge

After sitting for the majority of that second period, the Red Wings would start off the third with Frey, Palmer Sinclair, and Jake Misskey to give them something to prove. The first shift set a tone for the third period. They were not able to put anything in on their first oppurtunity, but the mixup in lines seemed to work.

The Red Wings had a ton of great chances, including a late powerplay that the Wings actually were able to send quite a few shots on, but still nothing through. The third period would also give us some 4-on-4 when Braden Birnie and Rowan Barnes.

Late in the game, the Red Wings had to pull Wakelyn out of the net, but the extra man did not make the difference and the Wings had to take the loss before their final northern road swing of the season.
