The Holy Family Catholic School Division board members took a journey through the eyes of a Syrian refugee.

At the past week's board meeting, the Kababbe family - one of three Syrian families in Weyburn - shared a presentation about life before and after the unrest in their home country.

"It was a journey for self-awareness for us to understand, I think, the impact of the complexity of the challenges that our Syrian refugees face and really what the loss is."

What also remains in Keith's mind after the presentation is the historical relics lost during the conflict.

"I mean here we're in a fairly newly developed country and you know, that's one thing, but when you look at what's been destroyed there, it's decades and decades, much more than us so the impact is more powerful."

Keith said the presentation was a reminder to be grateful for what we have here in Canada.
