The Midget AAA Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Gold Wings took to the road on the weekend, heading up to the Battlefords for a pair of games against the Sharks. The Gold Wings would come out on the short end in both games.

Penalties would be the story of the game on Saturday, as both teams combined for a total of 34 minutes and 13 power plays. It would be special teams that decided the game, for the most part, as the Sharks scored three power-play goals en route to a 6-2 win over the Gold Wings.

Weyburn’s goals in the loss both came from the stick of Lauren Demmans. She scored at the 3:44 mark of the second period to make it 3-1 Battlefords. The tally was assisted by Summer Foley.

Demmans then scored again, this time unassisted, in the third period. Her second goal of the came on the power play with 7:40 to play in the game.

Sunday afternoon, the two teams met again, and this time, it would be a close game until the dying moments.

The Battlefords went up early, scoring just 56 seconds in before Jayden Baker tied the game up with an unassisted shorthanded goal with 38 seconds to play in the opening period.

The Sharks took the lead with the lone goal in the second period, then Sydney Keddie tied the game back up 2-2  with an unassisted goal in the third.

The Battlefords would take the lead again shortly afterwards, making it a 3-2 game, before netting two empty-net goals in the final 90 seconds of the game to put it out of reach.

The Gold Wings will be back in league action on December 14th. They travel to Swift Current to face the Wildcats.
