This is the first school year that Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division has offered French Immersion in Weyburn.

Assiniboia Park Elementary School has been offering French Immersion to Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students since September. The program was already being offered at Pleasantdale School in Estevan.

“We're very pleased to be offering French immersion in our community, and this past year, we've offered it to a kindergarten grade one in Grade 2 and we have 47 students altogether,” Dan Manning, Principal at Assiniboia Park elementary School said. “In those three grades, which has been a real fantastic turn out, the response has just been outstanding, actually higher than we were maybe expecting.”

Next year, the school is offering the program to students in Grade 3.

Manning said the program is intended for students who don’t speak any French.

“If parents are worried about not being able to speak French prior to the program, where if French is not the language in the house, that's okay. French Immersion is intended for students to learn French right from square one.”

Registration is open for both English, and French Immersion for the next school year. More information can be found here.
