The Family Place has cancelled their Gargantuan Garage Sale, which had been scheduled to take place starting this Sunday.

Executive Director Dawn Gutzke told Discover Weyburn their reasons.

"We were going to host it next week, however, just with the rise in cases, that's happening very quickly in Weyburn, we just felt it not appropriate to host on large events," she shared. "There's three-to-four-hundred people that cram into the same space at the Curling Rink, and we just thought with the safety of our families and community, it's not the right time to put in the event on like that."

She said it's about being proactive.

"The most important thing right now is for families and children to be able to do normal things in life. Go to school, stay in sports, and to create an event that could just put so much potential exposure out for everyone, we just feel that unnecessary."

Gutzke added they're looking at maybe hosting a virtual sale or another type of alternative event, and in the meantime they'll also be focusing on the upcoming Festival of Trees, being held in November.
